The Guinness World Record for the highest amount of whole blood given by a woman went to an 80-year-old Alberta resident who has been a regular donor for almost 60 years.
In 1965, at the age of 22, Josephine Michaluk made her first blood donation. She has donated 203 units of blood since then, each unit being roughly a pint. Guinness World Records honored her for this accomplishment.
Her sister persuaded her to make her first donation, Michaluk said.
“That was the start of it, I chose to go with her,” she said to GWR.
She said she enjoys knowing that her donations benefit others, and her blood type is O+, which is highly sought-after.
She said, “I have it to give. I can offer it to people who require it.”
